Artist’s postcard with statement, ‘After World War II, the Allies occupying the defeated country of Germany encouraged the return of industries. Toys produced in this American sector of Bavaria up to 1990s carried the words ‘ Made in the U.S. Zone.’
The postcard depicts a marionette of Saddam Hussein playing a violin, set against a recurring pattern of bombs. One from series of 52 postcards screenprinted. The background pattern of bombs bombs weaken as the postcards progress. All 52 held in Australian War Memorial Collection. 15.2 x 10.0 cm. Edition unknown
